This first article, Foundation and Introduction lays out the basis for parents to understand that they have the ultimate authority to be the primary educators of their children.  It is important as a parent to understand this foundation, and assume your proper role as you choose the education path for your children.

The Bible is the infallible Word of God and is therefore the standard of truth in every field
of knowledge, and the measure of every moral issue. A Biblical education takes its
premises from the Word of God. So, children are to be educated and disciplined by the initiatives within the family and the church, and not secular institutions. The object and duty of the Family Tree Private School is to aid the home and church in teaching children the Biblical principles and knowledge necessary to prepare them for life and eternity. We provide guidance to obtain the tools necessary to receive a basic education, and endeavor to teach families and children that the Bible is the Word of God and the guide for all areas of life.

We support parents to develop in their children good study habits, an appreciation for physical labor, strong moral character, honesty, dependability, a fear of God, and obedience to His Word. It’s important to teach children proper respect for authority in the home, church, school, and state. Children should be taught not to speak evil of those in authority, but rather to be subject to them and pray for them in accordance to the Word of God. Children should be taught to be self-supporting as adults and avoid becoming a liability to the society in which they live.

God commands parents (not institutions) to teach their children, Deut. 6:5-7. Therefore, the final responsibility for a child’s education is placed upon each parent, though they may lend their authority or delegate it to another. In order to complement parents in this responsibility, Family Tree Private School is established for the purpose of extending a helping hand with an educational program that will develop the academic and spiritual area of their lives. Our goal to promote a Biblical world view and godly character is at the very center of our program and purpose. (The words of the Bible should be interpreted and translated as studied in the original Greek and Hebrew, by cross reference. This can be done using the Strongs Exhaustive Concordance, or similar accurate reference). We want to stress an academic curriculum that prepares each student for the technical demands of the future, while instilling in each student a love for God and the Savior that will lead them to a fruitful life in His service. In order to truly educate a child in both spiritual understanding and academic excellence, a proper perception of God is necessary.

To understand life, one needs to know the Author of life. To understand the world around us, one needs to know the Creator of the universe. Romans 1:18-25. Any subject taught without knowledge of the Author of knowledge will be lacking in depth and perception. God, and His Word must be recognized as the source of all truth before true exchange of knowledge can take place. Psalm 33:4.   Our philosophy of education is conceptual in its methodology. Understanding principles and concepts gives one the ability to comprehend the “why” behind the solution, whereas a mere acquisition of facts only produces surface understanding of a matter. It is a very narrow achievement to only have cursory knowledge, but to know how to use knowledge is of greater value to an individual.  Proverbs 4:5-8.  Our goal is to prepare all graduating students from Family Tree Private School with a Scripturally sound and academically solid education that will help them to successfully accomplish God’s will for their lives. 2 Cor.6: 14.  “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? What communion hath light with darkness?” (Refer to the Strong‟s Bible Concordance for the intended meaning of words, such as “yoked together”.)

The foundation of our school rests upon the Biblical instruction to train up our children in
the way that they should go.  Deuteronomy 6:5-7.  “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart; and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

We believe that every child is uniquely designed by God for His purpose in their life. In connection with this belief, our desire is to develop God’s children fully, both academically and spiritually. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Ephesians 6:4 “….And ye fathers bring your children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
